Numerous. Coyaba Hotel TEL (809) 444-4129 is the most inexpensive hotel on Grand Anse beach and boasts the best section of beach. They have a very comfortable restaurant and provide water sports. Other hotels include the very upscale Spice Island Inn (their luxurious units right on the beach all have private jacuzzis or dipping pools) and the well-appointed Ramada Renaissance.
LOCAL ATTRACTIONS:
St. George's. The capital city is perhaps the most picturesque town in the Caribbean, highlighted by the grand sweep of The Carenage, the town's natural harbor basin and the colorful cacophony of the Saturday morning produce market. (Note: Gustavia in St. Barths and Soufriere in St. Lucia are two other charming and photogenic towns in the Caribbean) Also note the American Medical School smack dab in the middle of Grand Anse Beach with students in bathing suits studying anatomy textbooks on the beach.
ACCESS TO BEACH:
Grand Anse is situated between the airport and St. George's, a 10-minute ride from either one. And though it is close, the airport is behind a hill and cannot be seen - or heard - from the beach. Public access and parking no problem.
QUALITY OF BEACH:
Grand Anse is a three-mile long stretch of deep beach with golden sand; a classic beach of the Caribbean, perfect for swimming and watersports.
ADDITIONAL COMMENTS:
Looking north you can see wonderful St. George's in the distance. A fun town with great little stores (and a good museum with Josephine Bonaparte's bathtub). Excellent roti and famous rum punches at 'The Nutmeg'- a local restaurant along the Carenage. Scuba divers can rent equipment from various shops for an 80-foot dive to the local shipwreck, the Bianca C, just off Grand Anse Beach.
